Airbnb host cancellation - what are my rights as a guest?

My Airbnb host cancelled my reservation a week before my trip. I had booked this place 3 months in advance and now prices for similar places in the area have doubled. What are my rights as a guest when a host cancels? Does Airbnb offer any compensation or help rebooking? I know there is a penalty for hosts who cancel but what does the guest actually get? Has anyone been through this process?

When an Airbnb host cancels your reservation, Airbnb has a policy to protect guests. Here is what you are entitled to: 1. Full refund: You will automatically receive a full refund of your booking amount within 10 business days. 2. Airbnb rebooking assistance: Airbnb customer support will help you find a comparable replacement at no additional cost to you. They will cover the difference in price if the new listing is more expensive up to a certain amount (typically $150-300 depending on the original booking). 3. Host penalty: The host is charged a cancellation fee (usually $50-100) and their listing may lose search ranking. Repeated cancellations can lead to account suspension. What you should do right now: 1. Contact Airbnb customer support immediately via the app or website. Do not try to resolve it directly with the host. 2. Ask for rebooking assistance and specifically mention that prices have increased since your original booking. 3. Take screenshots of comparable listings and their current prices - this helps Airbnb understand the price difference. 4. If Airbnb does not offer enough compensation for the price difference, ask to speak to a supervisor. In my experience, Airbnb was helpful when this happened to me. They found me a similar place and covered the $180 price difference.
