Hertz rental car damage deposit - how much do they hold?

I am renting from Hertz next week and I want to understand their damage deposit policy. How much do they put on hold on your credit card? Is it in addition to the rental cost? How long does it take for the hold to be released after you return the car? I am using a debit card and I have heard that can be different from using a credit card.

Hertz typically places a hold of $200-400 on your credit or debit card at the time of pickup. This is in addition to the rental charges. The hold amount varies: - Credit card: usually $200 hold - Debit card: usually $200-400 hold, and Hertz may also run a credit check - The exact amount depends on the location and vehicle class When is the hold released? - For credit cards: typically 5-10 business days after return, sometimes faster - For debit cards: can take up to 10-14 business days for the hold to be released by your bank - Hertz releases the authorization usually within 24-48 hours of return, but your bank may take longer to process it Important warning about debit cards: Hertz may place a larger hold and some locations will not accept debit cards at all without a round-trip ticket. The funds are actually withdrawn from your account (not just authorized) when using a debit card, which can cause overdraft issues. I recommend using a credit card if possible to avoid having real funds tied up for two weeks.
